WORKSHOP: COMPOSING FOR FINGERSTYLE GUITAR

Do you love the sound of acoustic guitar but feel ill equipped to compose your own music?  Are you in need of tools to assist in developing your ideas beyond a good starting point?  Do you feel as though your composing is in a rut or has plateaued out?  Does everything you write sound the same?

This intensive three hour workshop will arm you with a comprehensive set of approaches to composing and arranging for guitar.  An emphasis on practical use will enable students to translate new found skills into their own music making experience. 

Fingerstyle Workshop: $100  

Topics covered include: 

  • Employing concepts to generate ideas and ignite creativity
  • Construct and develop melody
  • Altered tunings
  • How to develop an effective compositional process
  • Building an arrangement from the ground up

A note - this is not a beginners class. It is essential that you have some playing experience and a reasonable theoretical understanding. It is pitched at the player who is in need of a shot of inspiration and one who wishes to push beyond their comfort zone.

WORKSHOP: SO YOU THINK YOU KNOW THE MAJOR SCALE?

This eight-week course will focus on tearing the major scale apart. It will delve deeply into all the material that resides within this scale; casting light on: 

  • Triads
  • Arpeggios
  • Quartal harmony
  • Sequences
  • Pentatonics
